Hans Dreyer is the Director of the Plant Production and Protection Division (AGP) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He is a Swiss national and holds a Master of Science degree in Agronomy and a PhD in Technical Sciences, both obtained at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, Switzerland.
 

Prior to joining FAO in 2016 he worked for 15 years with the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture where he was responsible for the Plant Health, Plant Genetic Resources, Varieties and Seed sector and directly involved in agricultural policy formulation and legislation.

 

He has acted for more than 10 years as the Head of the Swiss National Plant Protection Organization. With over 20 years of working experience in development cooperation he has worked, among others, for several years with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA, NGOs and the private sector.

 

He was actively engaged in many agricultural development projects in Latin America, Africa and Asia and has spent several years in the field in Africa and Latin America.
